A new plan for Seneca

By 2023-03-22No Comments

Well, here we are. I am late with my posts. In fact very much.

I’m struggling finding a rhythm. I wrote my first post (with the letters 1 to 5) on a not so busy Saturday afternoon in about 3-5 hours. Suprise! Turns out writing in the middle of the semester is much more challenging. Especially, since I do not have the time writing 3-5 hours on any given day at the week. Anywho, I do not write this post so I can bitch about my situation. Instead I want you to tell you about my process and the pitfalls i fell into.

One problem I had, I read the first 30 letters or so without highlighting anything or making any kind of notes. Summarizing these letters afterwards from memory was basically impossible, which meant I had to reread them. In addtition, it turns that writing in a second language (English) is much more difficult then I thought. Although, I think my English is quite good, I really do not have much practice with summarizing stuff.

I know what you might think: What do you care? This blog is in its infancy. Who’s gonna read it anyway? Well, sure. I would be fairly surprised if anyone except me reads my posts yet (March 2023) and cares what or how often I post something. (If I am mistaken, please let me know in the comments.) But that’s exactly the point: I care. I care, because it’s important to me and your projects should be as well. Who else is going to push them forward and execute on them if not you? In fact I promised to myself to post at least once a week. Not because I think, my word needs to be heard and spread as fast as possible across the internet, but because for the sake of writing, of getting better in it, getting used to doing regularly and finding my voice.

So, the problem I’m trying to solve is, how can I make my little project with Seneca work? In my new plan I’ll read from Monday to Friday everyday a letter and summarize it on the some day. However, thoughts will I only outline in keywords. Also I mark quotes or important passages, so the summarizing itself gets a little bit easier. This alone should take up 30 minutes max each day. At the weekend I’ll complete writing my thoughts and proofread my summaries. It is not entirely defined if I’ll do a summary of all 5 letters at the end or keep it seperate for each letter like in my first post.

Well, now you know what happened and what will happen soon. Read you soon!
